MANGO COBBLER !

HEAVENLY MANGO COBBLER!! I think it's the beginning of the season for mangoes bcos prices are going up!!Before they run out of all the mangoes,I thought I would BAKE you a mango dessert!! It is relatively easy, and you cannot beat the taste of mangoes with any other fruit on this sweet Earth, in my opinion!! So bake it and let me know!!

Mango Cobbler:

Mangoes:
The mango is a tropical fruit of the mango tree. Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera which consists of about 30 species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae.
Reference to mangoes as the "food of the gods" can be found in the Hindu Vedas and the leaves are ritually used for floral decorations at Hindu marriages and religious ceremonies. The fruit flesh of a ripe mango contains about 15% sugar, up to 1% protein, and significant amounts of vitamins A, B and C. The taste of the fruit is very sweet, with some cultivars having a slight acidic tang; it tastes roughly like a cross between a peach and a pineapple.More info at WIKIPEDIA.

Here is the delicious Mango Cobbler:

Here's How To Bake It:

YOU NEED:
1 cup diced mango pieces, (1 big ripe string less mango)
1 tbsp sugar
2 tsp water to keep it moist
1 oven proof bowl

For Cobbler Crumb Topping:
2 tbsp chilled butter ( must be cold)
2 1/2 tbsp Plain all-purpose flour
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/8 tsp Cinnamon pd(sweet not dalchini)
Pinch of salt
Pinch of Nutmeg pd

Mix mango, sugar and water, put them in a oven proof bowl. In another plate, mix all the crumb topping ingredients with your fingers to small lumps.Sprinkle crumb topping on the mango mixture.Heat Oven to 375F.This is how it should look before you put it in the oven.

Put in the oven on a baking sheet and bake for 25mins or until the top is golden.
I used Creme Brulee torch to make the top golden. You can also broil the top to get golden. Double the recipe if you want more than one bowl.
Garnish with mango pieces. You can also garnish with little whipped cream.

Here is how the torch looks to use on the crumble toping to caramelize it to a golden crunchy crust!

Yum, YUM! Fabulous recipe Asha. I always thought a cobbler would need more sugar, but I guess in this case the sweetness comes from the mango itself, right?

FH said...

Thank you for the compliment, Anonymous!

Thanks Priya, it's so easy I made it within 35mins including baking time!

Keshi, that 'put you in romantic mood', made you run out to get some, isn't it?! :D

You are right abt sweetness of mango, less sugar thingie! See how fast you are 'DOMESTICATED' :D :D
If you use tart apples or peach, you do need to add more sugar, pulpy ripe sweet mangoes don't. But sugar, salt & chillies in recipes are always tweakable acc. to your taste!Baking it for THE BOY?? :)

Krithika said...

This is a great recipe. Creme brulee torch ??? I am impressed !

Nee said...

Noooooooooo - say it ain't so! I shall resist the "domesticated" tag for as long as I can! :-)
This will be for me and Nah only! The Boy doesn't like mangoes (or most other fruits for that matter)- can you believe it?

I love cobblers, more so for the ease of preparation...you know why cobblers and called so? because the crumb mix when spooned on top, after baking it has a cobbled appearance...
Have done an apple and peach cobbler before, and mango season is gone and out from Mumbai, will try it next season :)

FH said...

FH said...

Hi ,thank you. I am sure your mom would love this. For us here,it's hard to get good soft mangoes but sometimes we do. Enjoy:))

des yu said...

hi! thanks for sharing this!m gonna make it as soon as possible...of all the mango cobbler recipes, i found yours the easiest to make...especially for a mom like me who's always in a hurry.
question: can i skip the nutmeg powder?i all have the ingredients in my kitchen except for that....;)

FH said...

Yes you can skip Nutmeg, Des. Just add cardamom pd if you have or you can skip that as well. Mango has wonderful natural aroma and flavor of it's own, so you don't need the extra spices. Enjoy! :)

Pietzi said...
